Spiked Hobnail Clear Pressed Glass Trinket Dish
This vintage clear pressed-glass dish is covered in an unusually sculptural combination of rounded hobnails and pointed glass “spikes,” giving the small bowl an almost jewel-like texture from every angle. The upper edge rises into a softly ruffled, scalloped rim, while the lower exterior is surrounded by rows of projecting hobnails that catch the light much more dramatically than a conventional bubble-glass pattern.
These little dishes were originally practical tabletop pieces, often marketed as ashtrays or small serving bowls, but their highly decorative pressed-glass surfaces made them just as suited to candy, nuts, jewelry, or vanity use.
Small, strange, and surprisingly architectural, it is the kind of pressed-glass object that becomes much more interesting once the light hits all those points.
Condition
Good vintage condition with light surface wear consistent with age and previous use. The clear glass remains bright and the molded hobnail and pointed decoration appears well defined.
